Reality Checks Explained: Why the Interval Is the Only Setting That Matters

A reality check is a recurring reminder during a session: time elapsed, usually net position, requiring an acknowledgement before play continues. It is the lightest of the four tools in a UK gambling account and the one most affected by a single setting.

The interval is the tool

A reminder every hour during a three-hour session appears twice and reads as furniture. A reminder every fifteen minutes appears twelve times and is impossible to ignore.

Both are the same feature. Only the second one does anything, and the common default is the first.

That is the whole of the practical advice: whatever the casino set, shorten it. A tool designed to interrupt does not work at an interval that does not interrupt.

Two figures, not one

A limit. It informs and lets you continue. A session limit ends the session, and the two are complementary rather than alternatives.

A judgement. Acknowledging one is not an admission of anything, and licence conditions prohibit treating it as a marketing signal.

Sufficient on its own. A reality check tells you where you are. A deposit limit decides in advance where you are willing to be, and it is the tool that does the deciding. The check is best read as instrumentation rather than as a control.

Why an interruption works at all
